A traditional Polynesian folktale from the tiny island of Hikueru relates how Mafatu, a young Polynesian boy whose name means Stout Heart, resolves to conquer his fears by setting out to sea with only his faithful dog for a companion and a misfit albatross for a guide. Mafatu faces many dangers before he can live up to the meaning of his name, prove his courage to himself and his people, and find his way home again
