Summary
In 1863, Thomas and his little sister, Birdie, flee the farm where they were born and raised as slaves and soon cross paths with a Union soldier, Corporal Henry Green, who brings the children back to his regiment. Soon, however, the regiment receives orders to join the Battle of Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. Includes factual information about the Civil War and the text of the Gettysburg Address
