The Salem Artillery was organized in 1861 in Roanoke County and was also known as the Salem Flying Artillery or Capt. Charles B. Griffin's Company, Virginia Light Artillery. The Courtney Artillery was organized in 1861 in Henrico County and was also known as the Henrico Artillery or Capt. William A. Tanner's Company, Virginia Light Artillery
