Summary
Travis is thirteen when his father goes off on the long cattle trail to Abilene, leaving him as man of the house. There were the hogs to tend, cows to milk and the young to be branded. There was also a constant battle against skunks and coons in the corn patch and the melons and a small brother who didn't take kindly to Travis as a disciplinarian. But most importantly there was Old Yeller, a big ugly yellow cur, whom Travis hated at the start and but grew to love and depend on
