Summary
This culinary travel memoir reveals French families at their best: at their own dinner tables. It is an intimate peek inside their homes and lives; it is a collection of traditional French recipes (cuisine pauvre, or "peasant foods"); and it is a compendium of culinary cultural traditions, sprinkled with historical anecdotes and spiced with humor and deliciously candid memories. This book is the first half of a culinary adventure in the Île de France, through the Champagne, Alsatian and Loraine regions, and back to Paris. The second book will be the completion of this adventure beginning in Paris, and heading north into Pas-de-Calais, Normany, Brittany, and Loire, and completing the tour in the Auvergne
